THE PSYCHOLOGY

The Psychology Behind
the Ritual.

A research-inspired practice for connecting intention with action.

The Genesis Ritual draws on established goal-planning methods as design inspiration.

The studies below examined general psychological methods—not THE RICH, the Genesis Pass, or its visual design.

FROM INTENTION TO ACTION

META-ANALYSIS · 2006

Implementation Intentions

An implementation intention is a specific if–then plan: when a defined situation occurs, a defined action follows. A 2006 meta-analysis of 94 independent tests reported a medium-to-large average effect on goal attainment (d = .65).

Choose one realistic action and connect it to a cue: “When X happens, I will do Y.”

FROM VISION TO REALITY

Mental Contrasting with If–Then Planning

Mental contrasting pairs a desired future with the real obstacle that stands in its way, then adds a concrete if–then plan. A 2021 meta-analysis of 21 articles contributing 24 independent effects (N = 15,907) reported a small-to-medium average effect on goal attainment (g = .336; 95% CI [.229, .443]). The authors cautioned that publication bias may mean the true effect is smaller.

Name the future. Identify the obstacle. Decide the next action.

Research distinguishes realistic expectations and structured planning from simply imagining an ideal outcome. Positive fantasy alone should not be presented as a substitute for action.

These findings inform the Ritual Guide. They do not show that buying or viewing a Genesis Pass produces these effects. THE RICH does not promise wealth, income, success, confidence, or psychological improvement.
